Southwark Law Centre
SLF funding was awarded to Southwark Law Centre for pre-litigation work to address race discrimination in schools. SLC is concerned that the Department for Education is failing to adequately monitor or address systemic racism in school exclusions and ‘quasi-exclusions’, which include ‘managed moves’, ‘off-rolling’ and children being directed off-site for ‘improvement of behaviour’.
SLC provides specialist legal advice and representation in the areas of discrimination, employment, education, housing, planning, welfare benefits and immigration and asylum to those who cannot afford to pay for legal services. We have particular expertise in supporting destitute migrants, and convene the Housing and Immigration Group.
Doctors of the World
SLF has awarded funding to Doctors of the World to intervene in the judicial review claim of R (OK) v Royal Free NHS Foundation Hospital Trust. The claim concerns an important issue as to the standard of care to which migrants are entitled under the NHS (Overseas Visitors Charging) Regulations 2015 (as amended), specifically Regulation 3 (7) (‘urgent care’).
Focusing on long term systemic change, Doctors of the World works to reduce health inequalities by improving access to healthcare in the UK through advocacy work and clinical services. We believe access to healthcare is a human right, but all too often it is denied to the most vulnerable, such as refugees, migrants and trafficked people.
Child Poverty Action Group
SLF funding has been awarded to CPAG for pre-litigation research into the exclusion of EU citizens with pre-settled status (PSS) from social security benefits, including universal credit (UC), without consideration for their individual circumstances or fundamental rights.
